Photographer’s Note
according to Travel Victoria website:
The primary attraction in Lake Bolac, known locally as the "Home of Aquatic Sports" is the 1460 hectare freshwater lake which shares its name with the town. The lake is ideal for boating, while fishing and camping are popular along its 20 kilometre shoreline which features picnic areas, BBQs and swimming beaches.
A few years of drought have changed all that. On the far shore you can see the boat shed, which is a long way from the muddy puddle in the middle of the "lake", fought over by the few remaining water birds.
CPL and GND filters used.

Hi Stephen,
This photo has a great geometry to it, with all those beautifully sharp cracks. It also illustrates well the current drought in Victoria. The ominous clouds look like they are about to fill the lake, but they probably just moved on without dropping any rain.

Vince

Hello Stephen! Before reading your note I thought this was somewhere in the desert but after your text I think it is actually a sad picture would it not be for the fantastic patterns it gives and how you made use of it, so there are different sides, your excellent photo work and how you have the cracked dried mud in your foreground and the grey sky maybe adding the sad touch to something that is really serious. This is really good, very well done. Barbara.

hi Stephen
This dry bed is very well captured to show the scars of what is left behind for this lake's nature status. Scary just to think of changes brought by environmental issues.
Very sharp details with your choice of f/22.

A sad story but a fine journalistic picture. The close up of the cracked ground together with the long perspective is powerful and well made.

Hello Steve, I love the colour & clarity in this shot. My very first post was very similar to this, not similar in quality but only on the subject matter. Knowing how popular this place was especially over the summer & now deserted & so dry, a very sad sight. Excellent colour & detail.
Well done.

Hello Steve,
This is becoming a terrifyingly common sight in various parts of the world. Nevertheless it's a well taken picture with a very strong POV and soft colours. No doubt the cloudy weather played a part for fine outcome.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Steve,
It is a sad story for all, especially those once proud owners of the foreshore properties around the lake.
This low POV shot tells it all, from the incredibly detailed FG all the way to the horizon with changing colours. You have used the GND to produce this excellent shot.

Hello Stephen,
Not a funny note, but a noticable photo. First what I like the most, is the composition, well using the possibility of the wide angle lens. Showing a detail in its environment. It provides a great feeling of deepness and allowed to evidence the texture of the mud.
I see you used a GND, so you had the same issues I got in Iceland with cloudy sky and dark earth: not easy to manage, isn t it?
Yves.

"Home of Aquatic Sports," eh? Well, I don't want to be there for the diving. Nice shot with great sharpness througout--you must have found the hyperfocal distance correctly. The patterns make a great foreground. Regards, Ken.
