Port Angeles in the Morning

Floydian's gorgeous photo of La Push on Washington's Olympic Peninsula inspired me to go look through my collection of shots from there in June. I knew I didn't have any sunsets to match his (it rained most of the time we were there), but I do have this shot of Port Angeles in the morning - the only time we saw a clear sky, and it was just as we were getting on the ferry to Victoria! The weather gods are fickle.
The mountain in the background is Mount Angeles, 6,564 feet (1,967 m), one of the highest mountains in Olympic National Park, and the only one we got to see clearly.
Techincal: Minor cropping and some smart sharpening. |

Hi Dan,
The mountain in the background look higher than 1900mts. However being near the ocean I guess the area is also very low. Nice background to this city. The view is excellent with the clouds creating a division of layers in the composition. Good work Dan :-)

Nice one, Dan.
I particularly appreciate the framing, with those different layers building up towards the sky and the snowy peaks emerging from the fog. Fine light management and definition.
Well rendered, typical Pacific Northwesten atmosphere.
Have a good weekend, I'll be seeing ya.
Ciao,
Fulvio.
Hi Dan,
Thanks for the link ;-)
I was only passing here and had a sandwhich at Subway's. I was cloudy and did not see the mountains, but seeing them in your picture they look great and very photogenic...pity i missed that.
I came from Vancouver that day, the ferry at Keystone and the rest of the route must be well known to you all the way to Forks.
Regards, Henk
Hello Dan,
I looked at the sunset submitted by Henk (floydian), and indeed it is quite spectacular. Yours is no sunset, but it is a very good image of Mount Angeles, and in June it is still covered in snow. What I particularly like is the mist lying between the green hills and the curtain of mountains. The architectural edifice in front, however, tends to distract somewhat from the mountains (i.e. in my view).
The Ethopian priest photo impressed my National Geographic friends. I am very grateful,
Bulent
