Cool shot! The frog is a little out of focus, but I understand how hard it is to capture something that just won't sit STILL! Perhaps placing your camera's focus options to continuous as this tracks motion better and keeps your subject sharp. You handled the colors very well! -Steve

Hi George. Out of curiosity, how is it that you are able to post more than one photo per day when the rest of us are limited to only one? I like your theme of faces although I think it would fit better at TrekLens rather than here where the images are to depict places more than people, unless those people are part of a scene or intrinsic to the situation. You obviously know how to use your camera as your photos are very good. Perhaps you should check out the other sites managed by TrekEarth. -Steve

When I saw your title I laughed a little. I thought, "Boy! I know the economy in the United States is bad right now, but Philadelphia looks terrible!" The rule of thirds is applied quite well here. I appreciate the inclusion of facts in your notes. The trees offer a sense of new life in a ruin. Good shot! -Steve

Hello, and welcome to TrekEarth! I like your perspective here. The shot is blown out quite badly, but offers a sense of some knowledge of how to compose a shot. Make sure you are reading the meter on your camera accurately and your photos will come out better than this. I look forward to seeing what else you post here! -Cheers! -Steve

I almost wondered for a moment how you got this shot, until I saw the structure in the lower left corner. What an exhilarating image! I do my share of mountaineering and never get tired of views like this. The blue tones are great in this shot. I can almost detect the curve of the Earth, but that may be an effect of the wide angle focal length at 18mm. Great shot! -Steve

Now THIS is good work! Your photo depicts exactly why this is called Monument Valley. Perfect sharpness, good shadow detail, the sky's gradient is well managed, horizon is level and not skewed, and you have a complexity of tones here ranging from near black to almost totally white. The toning is a very popular trend right now that I personally think adds the perfect touch, almost like the old darkroom toning techniques. Great work Way!! -Steve

Grand Teton Sunrise by RoieGalitz (124)

Hi Roie, I really like this shot! As I was looking through the other critiques I was hoping that someone would point out that this is NOT in fact the Grand Teton as you have labeled it, but IS rather Mount Moran, one of the other famous peaks in the park. Regardless, I am jealous of how well you handled the foreground details here. Perhaps you could include a few notes to enlighten the rest of us amateurs on how to get this great effect. Nice work! -Steve

Richard, I just found your work a minute ago and am impressed with your portfolio. This image instantly reminded me of a high ISO film for the quality of the grain. If that was the intention, you succeeded! It's definitely impressive. The water in the left foreground reminds me a bit of tin-foil. The sky is very overbearing offering a feeling of a gathering tempest. A very moody image for sure. Quality work! -Steve

Hello Simon! I often find an overcast or grey sky to be a favorable situation. As in this shot, it helps to create a subtlety in tones that would be lost on a clear sky day with strong sunlight. Portrait photographers like overcast skies for that exact reason. Your photo portrays a crisp New England day very well. I can almost hear the rushing of the emerald falls in this shot. I think the only way to make it work a little better would be to control the horizon line in the distance to firmly plant the strength of this photo. Fine Work Simon!
