I love the traditions of the Pow-Wow in Native American religions. What I see here that could be better in a presentation is to slow your shutter speed so you capture the story the woman is conveying to the audience through the movements of her dance. I attended a Pow-Wow at the Celilo Longhouse here in Oregon in the Columbia River Gorge during the Spring Salmon Festival, and I used a slow shutter speed and was able to capture the spirit of the horse in a Yakama's dance as his movements replicated the running of a horse. There is a delicate balance when adjusting the shutter to capture the movement one wishes to convey through the dance, but with digital photography, you do have time to make those adjustments without losing the opportunity to share in the final scene. I wish to have seen the woman's face, and if you would have slowed the shutter, her face would not have been in focus, and possibly not needed written permission to use. I did ask permission to utilize one image, and this image was of a woman, then younger, 16 per her aunt, at the time. Her image is the sole reason for my first book of three titled: "The Majestic Columbia River Gorge, A Journey Treasured Throughout Time."
I felt honored to have been allowed permission to use her image, and in doing so, have learned much of their people and history.
I hope one day you attend another Pow-Wow and take my advice, you will understand, without question, how much better your images will be accepted by those that look into the Spirit of the Native Americans souls.
