lol, Didier, you will not believe that, but I was just thinking about you :P I haven't traveled for so long I think I am slowly loosing my mind, and I need to go SOMEWHERE. so my plan is to see if Linda, Barbara and some other usual suspects, including you, are up for a weekend somewhere in Europe. what do you think? I'll write you all an e-mail very soon.

but back to the photo - love the illuminated bridge in the distance, and the delicate gradient sky, very elegant.

    hi Philippe,

what I like best here is the lonely tree, the poor thing looks totally out of place among the strange rock formations and intense yellow and blue colours :) and if that wasn't enough to make your photo fascinating, you have added just the right touch of clouds in the sky, I'm green with envy :) great shot, I like it a lot.

love the spooky mood, I find it fits the concept of "winter is always coming", as they say in the "Game of Thrones". the level of detail on the foreground branches is simply astonishing, they look delicate as lace. excellent work, my compliments.

fantastic photo, Serghei, I just love how the sunlight adds sparkles to the sculptures and makes the place look like straight out of fairy tales. good idea to include some people in the frame, it helps us appreciate the size of the artwork. well seen and presented.

absolutely wonderful photo, Rosemary, both technically and content-wise. B&W was just the right choice to draw our attention to the contrast between carefree expressions of the kids, and old and wrinkled bark of the dead tree. I also love how the tree frames the children, as if trying to protect and shelter them. and I won't even start about the sad reality of white sands versus learning.
great shot, wish it was mine, goes straight to my favourites.

the white letters are quite distracting, and, sadly, do nothing to help prevent the theft if someone is really determined to get your photo. as somebody with decades of experience in photography wisely told me "the only way to avoid online theft is to avoid posting online"...
apart from the letters the photo is great, love how the stones create natural frame and how the water looks like liquid gold.

I'd probably crop a little from the left to remove the bush that I find a little distracting, but that's a minor point. love the fiery sun, and how together with the twisted branches of the tree it creates a spooky mood.

I like the way you have composed the photo, and that you focused on the texture of the ice instead of the people, and I don't really mind that the edge of the frame crosses the leg of the adult.

I would, however, change two things in the photo - first, get rid of the gray frame. any colour in the frame, except black or white, visually reduce contrasts in the photo itself, and make it look a bit dull, and gray frames are particularly bad in this regard.

second, whenever taking photos of snow or ice, the camera automatically adjusts what it sees as something too bright (snow) to something that is closer to neutral gray, and as a result photo looks much darker that it should. to avoid this, you should use Exposure Compensation, and, depending on the situation, add +0.7 or more to make the snow whiter. you can adjust levels and curves in the digital darkroom, but I prefer getting it right already in the camera. in this particular photo I would definitely try and work with curves to brighten the ice.

I did a very quick WS to illustrate what I meant above, hope it helps.

    Kristine

what I like best is the empty canvas in painter's hands, the white rectangle stands out really well in this colour-filled photo, makes the viewer wonder what will appear on it. I also quite like the fact that the man has turned away, it makes the photo more about his work than about himself. nicely presented.

very well seen, Filipe, the intense red and orange colours fit perfectly the minimalist geometric composition, and you have just enough random elements - signs, shadows - to make sure that the repetitive patterns of the doors do not become monotonous. nicely done.

the tight framing and beautiful golden light work very well to add impact to this portrait, I like it a lot. I might have tried bringing out the eyes a little more, and then slightly sharpening the image, but those are minor points.

    hi Jim,

what I like best is the little white gate, it stands out so well from the rest of the fence and looks straight out of Brothers Grimm fairy tales :) I also like the way you have composed the scene with the trees and fence framing the beautiful church. the clear light and bright colours remind me of children's paintings, you have the same feeling of joyful calm here. nicely done.

ah, the High Andes! love them, even when dead tired after a 22-km day with 4100m and 4600m passes on the Lares Valley trek.
you have captured the wild beauty of the place very well overexposed area on the right doesn't really bother me, I find it fits how I remember the blinding snow from my hike. and good idea to include people in the frame, it definitely helps the viewer to appreciate the scale. nicely done.
