I went here, walked up to the glacier and then walked away without taking any pictures. Just didnt quite know what to do - its not an easy glacier to shoot. By creating the pano you have captured it really well here. The people are great to add scale, and although Im not a big fan of B&W landscapes, this works really well.

Brilliant stuff.

The colours on the hillside are stunning and their reflection is lovely in the water too. To improve the composition I would have moved the buildings into the frame more so that they are 1/3rd from the right. Also, it might be the curve of the lake giving a false impression but the horizon looks wonky. I would level this up, as leaving it I think creates a distraction.
Finally as a seperate shot, next time I would zoom in to exclude the lake so that you can feature just the buildings and the wonderful coloured mountain behind.
I have been meaning to visit Iceland for a couple of years now. Hopefully next year - it looks like an incredible place.

This is a great shot with a real feeling of loneliness and isolation. The colours are perfect to highlight this feeling, with only the smallest trace of colour. I really like the wave breaking on the shore - perfect choice of shutter speed to freeze the crest.

I really like the subject matter - it looks like a gorgeous landscape to photograph and you have done it justice. One slight point - dont know whether it was possible but it would have been nice to not have included the tree on the right of the frame. I dont mind the bottom of it so much, but the top I find a little distracting - but not too much.

Either way it was definately worth getting out for this. Has a really eerie moody feeling to it, accentuated by the cool blues. I hope bears sleep at night!

But as for my opinion, I think this is a wonderful portrait. The tight composition works well here, and the girls face, pose, expression and clothes all contribute brilliantly.
Superb shot.

I think we spend so much time down low getting big foregrounds that views like this make a refreshing change. For me this all works extremely well, the colour in the sky is no problem as it matches the tones throughout the rest of the image. It looks like you worked your composition hard to find a spot that would isolate that island from the headland - it works all the better for it.

This is my favourite place in Cornwall and one of my top beaches anywhere. Despite getting there late it looks like you timed the tide perfectly - virgin sand with the sheen of the water. How magical is this place in the evening on a receding tide? Even without taking photos this place is just awe inspiring to stand in. It really makes your heart sing in a way that only the really special places of the world can do. Moraine Lake in the Rockies, Milford Sound and Wharariki Beach in NZ, Elgol in Scotland - this is right up there with the best.
As for your shot, the shiny black rocks give this a cold metallic feel which really works well. I love that cardboard cut out seagull on the top left of the rock. Surely he's made of cardboard to stand still for 30 seconds, either that or he's died on his feet!
Great stuff Jon,
Adam.

As stunning as this location is (and it really is lovely) its very difficult to get a composition of this huge sea arch. I tried a number of different compositions, but in each the foreground (the arch) dominated the background way too much. I think you have chosen well with your composition here. By forgetting about the sky, the background and concentrating on the arch itself, the shot works so much better. And you have captured it in great light too.
I was here at dawn on New Years Day and it was blowing a gale. Blimmin scary!!!

I do love big foregrounds, and this one is full of interest and colour. I love the blue of the frozen lake. The background is also really intersting; the only problem is that there doesnt appear to be enough room for the mountains and sky. I think a composition which allows a little more breathing space between the mountain tops and the top of the frame will benefit this shot enormously. One to return to when conditions are similar.
thanks,
Adam. |
