    Hi Wolfgang,
great, this view of Eruq Kala if I'm not mistaken. You must have seen it from the top of Ayaz Kala. Both fortresses were built in the Kushan(Buddhist) period (2nd century CT) to secure the Oasis Khiva - with Adobe material ! Your picture brings up an interesting question: how do you militarily defend an oasis in the middle of a huge desert?
Thanks for the presentation, Greetings Dieter

    Dear Wolfgang,

you did an excellent job here, the beautiful mosaïc is difficult to catch on camera because of the obstructing trees. In your picture the branches add a welcome effect of dissolution. When I saw Divan Begi Medresa I couldn't figure out a good angle like you did. The mosaïc a pretty liberal interpretation of Ikonoklastic rule applied by Shiite artisans ! Is the sun with the mongol- looking face a recall of former Zoroastrian beliefs? Thanks for this, Dieter

    Hello Bulent,

thanks to your kind comment on one of my pictures I have the privilege of discovering your contributions to TE. This picture's significance is much enhanced by your fabulous note that goes with it. I now understand I have to read your book "Math and the Mona Lisa" ...

    Bonjour Jacques,

    Merhaba Murat,

so you live here, niiiice ! My congratulations to your new camera. Your first shot is convincing, superb. While you are right to look for a DSLR, I had to go another way since I travel essentially with a bicycle. I am now the proud owner of a light, compact Sony RX-100 that does the most amazing things.

    Thanks for posting this one!

    Merhaba Murat,
an interesting and funny picture. It seems that the Park administration helped our imagination a little.
What I always appreciate when in the US: the National and Regional Nature Parks have a strong educational mission, they want to explain things.

    Hi Yass,

that is a highly original and very well composed view of the famous Sesah pol ! My compliments on this one. I like your work, Yass.
    Best regards, Dietrich

PS: You asked me whether I would visit Iraq shortly. The answer is unfortunately no. I had the privilege to visit your country a year ago; I was able to see many places, from Arbil to Babil down to Basra and I enjoyed it a lot. But for foreigners and non-arab speaking people it is difficult to travel. Even getting a visa was quite complicated.

    Hello Elisabeth, once more,

what a beauty you caught with your lens. And again, the mention of the word "greco-catholic" brings up a great deal of history.

We had in the fifties a catholic Theology professor at "my" University of Fribourg who was impressed by the courageous behaviour of the greec-catholic priests during the Nazi terror. He said so to his students and got into troubled water for doing it.

    best regards, Dieter

    Hi Yass,
this picture caught my attention: human faces and animals in a Shi'ite dominated country like Iran! You rendered the stele very well.
I have been looking up on the monument you visited (in Wikipedia): Chahal (or Chehel) Sotoun was constructed by Shah Abbas II in 1645; it served for the entertainement of guests. Later Afghan iconoclastic conquerors felt the need of covering all paintings and figures with chalk. But from what I gather from you the pavillon has been restored now.
Thanks for sharing this interesting cultural insight with us TE viewers!
    My best regards, Dietrich

    Hi Mehrdad, again,
you really make me want to visit Iran again! I haven't been in the South. The prophet's tomb and your commentary is interesting: the style of the dome is seljuk-turk (11th c. AD), like the tomb of prophet Jezekiel in Iraq, like the tomb of prophet Joshua in Baghdad.
I also learned from Wikipedia that the seljuk-turk khan named-- Seljuk-- had is many sons named after Old testament prophets without being Jew, Christian or Muslim. You make me think about the great history of Persia and Iran!
    Thanks for presenting the picture.
    My best regards, Dietrich
