Detail and sharpness well captured.

I love the framing here and the general mood for the image. I think it's slightly tilted towards the left side but I might be wrong or it might be result of wide angle distortion (the columns and the wall are not perfectly parallel). However, as far as I am concerned this image does not defend itself as a standalone image but would work perfectly in a photo story. I guess it's a part of your photo story so it's a great pity we can't upload whole photo stories on Trek Earth.
Best,
Pawel
PS. Would be even better if not the Canon colours (whoops.... ;)) |

Light is perfect: the fog, golden light beams of rising sun. It looks like a beautiful painting.
Really really nice shot.
I've heard D300 is quite a nice camera. I'm using D200 myself from time to time (lately I mostly shoot film) and I'm thinking on switching to D700 when I get save some cash.

What I miss here is movement - a human element, or at least a dog... As for B&W, looks a bit dull. Certainly it's sharp, but what I miss here is play with tones. I'd work on this picture using simple dodge & burn tools... Stress the shadows, improve the contrast a bit.

As for the colour I like it too but I have some doubts about it. My screen sucks but it appears really greenish here. Traditional B&W would give far too much contast here. Green works well, gives the whole thing nice, subtle atmosphere. I'd try a shade of brown as well maybe.
All in all, good photo. I'm personaly very attached to Beijing hutongs because I lived in Beijing for 2 years and also lived in a small hutong for over 6 months. So far, it was the best period in my life.

The only thing I'd change would be either cropping the right side of the image to get the head of the guy on the right exactly in the composition lines cross point or getting a bit closer to him. Anyway, it's a good shot and thanks for sharing.

![Gold Star Critiquer/Gold Star Workshop Editor/Gold Note Writer [C: 158 W: 70 N: 93]](//i1.trekearth.com/misc/g-g-g.gif) (827) [ 2008-06-24 8:35] [ +] Bardzo podoba mi sie idea powracania do jednego miejsca.
Moim zdaniem cala seria byla by o wiele mocniejsza, gdybys robil DOKLADNIE taki sam kadr, dokladnie takie same tony (ewentualnie jedno zdjecie w innej tonacji, ale to musialo by byc uzasadnione, np srodkowe), i tylko kalejdoskop osobowosci.
No nic... to tylko takie moje przemyslenia.
Pozdrawiam cieplo
