Not sure I concur.

To say so risks implying that site was great in the golden old days and the longstanding members were ace photographers compared to the riff raff joining these days.

Going to the members page, for example, when I look at the photos posted by members who most recently joined (from Macedonia, Turkey, Iran, China, UK, etc.) they are all quite good. Certainly on par with those of some of the older members here. Nice to see some new views of the world, from a fresh perspective and accomplished eye!

Quite a mix of definitions about quality that rises questions

Are we talking about presentation or content ?
Presentation:
- If you got an action-script to post process your shots always in the same tone, quality … do we talk about style then, monotone versus diversity ?
- The B&W and film protesting the world of digital, does it matter, nostalgia versus modern, déjà-vu versus new possibilities ?

Content
- what is most important, a readable story or the story you put into it ?
- does the unique moment really matter ? f.i. look who is standing next to me or look who is standing next to the pope, which has more value

Art versus commerce
- is it that you happen to be member of a organization that has as target besides the better photography to commercialize photos in a protective way that it has to be better then yours ?
- seeking sensation on all levels, wars, hunger, poverty ….does it guarantee you quality or better commercial impact ?
- choosing a certain concept, does it limit you ?
- following trends or fighting trends, where is the difference ?

That's the eternal question, Henk.

One person's quality is another person's crap. What I protest are the ones who knowingly post bad photos that represent nothing and say, "Gee. is this BAD" I just don't KNOW!!!?" so their buddies can rush to reassure them the bad photo is the greastest thing they have ever seen. Lying to yourself is ignorant. Believing the reinforced lies of others just makes you stupid.
