Martyr photographers

Hi gents, I am interested in knowing if you have links regarding photographers that lost their lives while doing this work,

I am researching a bit about this profession, and I am interested in knowing these tragic experiences,

Hi Kike,
You might be interested to look at the following names of Australian photographers who died whilst "on duty" :
Neil Davis (1934-1985) a photojournalist who died after being caught in crossfire during a failed coup attempt in Bangkok.
Olegas Truchanas (1923-1972)
Peter Dombrovskis (1945-1996)
The latter two were great Tasmanian wilderness photographers.
You should find plenty of material on each of them - let me know if you want more information.

Hmmm, Kike, I'm not sure whether I can relate to that 'GENTS' ;-), but I immediately had ot think about the Portuguese photographer who worked for Greenpeace, and was killed in the attack on their ship "Rainbow Warrior" in Auckland. He was not really photographing at that moment, so I don't know if this is what you mean, but here's the <a href="http://www.greenpeace.org/international/rainbow-warrior-bombing/greenpeace-then-and-now"target=_blank> article</a>

Ofcourse Robert Capa is the most famous. He died on assignment..he was also the founder of Magnum Agency. He died in 1954 in Indochina I believe. The Robert Capa Award was established to honor brave photojournalists.

The OTHER founder of Magnum David Seymour ALSO died on assignment in the Suez. He died in 1956.

Galen Rowell was amazing, and I believe that he was in some way engaged in photography when his plane crashed in 2002, although I am not positive that he was taking aerial photos--he may have just been flying to or from a site.

The following is part of an introduction to the book I am reading at the moment, it may by of some help to you.

The author is photographer Tim Page, and the following is stated:
"he also co-edited with Horst Faas the award-winning book "Requiem", which featured the work of all the photographers killed during the Indochinese wars between 1945 and 1975."

how about photographers that have been so affected by their work that they have committed suicide? A friend of mine loaned me a book, I think it was called "War Correspondent", and there was a story about a photographer who captured an image of a starving child trying to drag itself to an aid station only 100m away, with a vulture lurking in the background. He took the shot and shoo-ed the vulture away but did not help the child reach the aid station. He was so affected by this that not long after he killed himself.
