That's an excellent picture of the black castle (as it is known by the locals here), but the information given on it is incorrect. The ruin is actually a burned-down castle, dating from ~1450, and was built by the Butlers. The church from which he name of the town was drawn is directly across the lake from this ruin, and has a cemetery beside it. they are not directly associated, however, and this ruin, or the other, is not dedicated to the virgin mary at all.
I don't mean any offence, I am not trying to put you down in any way, I only want to correct what you had written about it's history. |

Many thanks for letting me know about my incorrect caption. I've updated the caption with the info that you provided. As you can tell I'm not a local from Templemore - although my wife is from nearby. Thanks again.
