Hello Beverley, althoughI was a teacher I can honestly say that I had never heard of Samuel Wilderspin; what an innovator, why haven’t I heard of him before?
Three excellent shots that give us a taste of what was on offer for your visit.
I remember that the Primary school that I attended was called a National school when I was there.
A tutor at college was surprised that it was still known as this hen I mentioned it,in the late 60s!
Thanks for sharing, and I hope that you will show more from here.
Kind regards, Jean

Default To jean113: Back to School

Thank you for your response, Jean.
I'm sure you, like me, would love to explore this school.

I was a teacher, too, and had never heard of Samuel Witherspin but I recognised his influence from my early days at school in the 1950's.

From learning about him and his inspired views on education, I was surprised to find that his ideas were not extended to secondary education! It must have been a real shock to the children when they transferred!

I must admit though, my primary education was much happier and absorbing than my secondary education!

Kind regards, Bev :-)
