Colours of the sea

Good morning Winifred,
The beautiful, muted, olive tones of this photo really express, for me, the feelings of an old harbour; bringing back memories of all the different smells of the sea when I used to walk pass the harbour in St.Andrews daily on the way to school.
The quality of the light is remarkable, and the soft reflections, together with the Fucus covered rocks, are very gentle on the eye.
It is interesting to note that the word for lobster, in Norwegian, is hummer - not so different from the Latin.
Greetings, Amelia

Glad to meet you, Amelia. And glad you enjoyed this picture. I've been enjoying your portfolio since I came across your critique - superb work, and all are subjects that I would have been attracted to myself. The limpet shot is really creative, reminding me of fabric patterns in the days when clothes for girls were pretty. I have not critiqued any of them today but will be back to look at them again!
Harbours are indeed an endless source of interest and delight. I remember the one at St Andrews; my son studied there in the early seventies. Best wishes, Winifred |

Your son was lucky to study there Winifred. I imagine that, in the 70s, the old gas works near the harbour had probably been demolished, together with the laundry on the East Sands; but, when I visited last year, I found that the old town had hardly changed. I remember so well, the students taking the customary Sundaywalk along the pier, a column of red gowns, blowing in the stiff Fife breeze. The Kate Kennedy procession was the highlight of my year, along with the Lammas Fair, when rolling a penny was my one and only betting vice
