Hi Steve,
I think this is a great photo, with perfect reflections of the tea trees and granite. A good vantage point for showing the profile of Whale Rock. You were there at just the right time (early morning), but then timing is all important in landscape photography.

I'm sure that in those days, the monarchs were more interested in their wealth than in the preservation of buildings for history! The religious orders and institutions were exceptionally wealthy and, after the cost of many wars and protective buildings, the king was eager to take some of that wealth.
