Can anyone recommend a software that's easy to download and gives easy adjustment of photo qualities? I've noticed most people make their photos brighter and more colorful before posting them . I've got some hp software on cd-rom that does this but it interferes with the pc in strange ways, causing slow function unless you clean up after using it.

I am not familiar with any free image editing software, but Adobe's Elements is priced reasonably and it does all that you require. Download a trial version and see for yourself.

If this is all you want Google`s Picasa is for free and it does what you want.
If you are willing to learn more, Gimp is also freeware and it`s almost as capable as Photoshop.

I recommend simply "Microsoft office picture manager", a quick "automatic correction" will do the job for ya ^^

I recommend GIMP. Its absolutely free. The quality of the post processing is of decent quality. The results of post processing will vary only if we go for printing the images if we compare GIMP with Photoshop. But for Posting it does a well job.
