Great john_c 2005-06-23 22:15

Your timing in posting this shot was rather eerie for me, Kath. I have just finished reading a book about Cook's voyages and was thinking about the monument I have visited at Kalakeakua Bay in Hawaii where Cook was killed. The beach there is just below where my wife and I have stayed several times. I was not aware of this monument. You have achieved great clarity and fine colours in this wonderful shot. The clouds are enhancing and too the little hill beyond. A very satisfying and well conceived shot. Best regards.

Default To john_c: Eerie!?

Definitely eerie!! We were in Hawaii in Jan/Feb and went to Kealakekua Bay to "pay homage". The children at the school where I used to teach are studying Captain Cook this term and just this week I printed photos for them of the memorials there!
What a climb back up from the beach!
Kath

Kath, I remember that climb. For two years I had the "onerous" task as co-executor of an estate to manage an executive mansion on the hill above the bay, which required me to travel once a year and of course stay there for a couple of weeks. We rented the home to holidayers. Unfortunately we sold the home recently, but my wife and I plan to return to vacation on the island. The Big Island is our favourite. I write history books as a hobby and you might say I have always had an obsession with James Cook and George Vancouver. Regards. John.
