Great tyro 2012-04-28 17:51

Hello Will,

This is a strikingly beautiful photograph with lots of impact but with some subtle lighting and fabulous golden reflections.

I like the symmetrical composition and the exquisite sharpness and am amazed that this must have been copied or scanned from a 35mm negative or transparency taken with your "Tank" - your Canon T90.

Was it a transparency or a negative?

Kind Regards,

Default To tyro: Film

Hi John
Pretty sure it was negative film. I use a Nikon dedicated slide/negative scanner, and set the resolution really high, which gives suitably large, 16 bit depth files. If the trannies/negs are good in the first place, the results are just as good as digital originals as far as I can see, except that on some images the film grain is detectable in areas of plain tone (e.g. skies).
