Photographer's Note

Pharaoh Ramses II built and dedicated the Great Temple (1255 BC) to himself and the most important gods of ancient Egypt: Ptah (the creator god of Memphis), Amun-Re (the great god of Thebes) and Re-Harakhte (sun god of Heliopolis). The four statues of Ramses II are more than 20 meters high.

The temples of Abu Simbel are famous for their relocation in 1967 to save them from being flooded during construcion of the Aswan High Dam.
