Photographer's Note

The mere mention of the name of the Nile evokes for modern man images of Pyramids, great temples, mastabas, desert, fantastic tales of mummies, and wondrous treasures. But the Nile represents life itself to the people of Egypt, ancient and modern. In fact, for thousands of years, the River has made life possible for hundreds of thousands of people and animals, and has shaped the culture we today are only beginning to truly understand.

This picture was taken in the city of Luxor on a warm still night. Two kids, a boy and a girl can be seen rowing their own boat towards the west bank of the river. They were by our boat for a while asking for food, not money but food! They will be going home tonight with enough food for dinner as the people in our boat even took food from the dining room.
