Photographer's Note

I once read that Gonder is sometimes called the 'Camelot' of Africa (LP). Well it probably isn't quite that magical but Fasilados's castle in the centre of the city is a wonderful building.

It's style is Portuguese. It was built by King Fasilados after his coming to the throne in 1632. It's just been renovated and is a wonderful place to wander around. There are other buildings in the royal compound, including a lion cage and a set of arched stables, but this is the most complete. We often forget that Ethiopia has such an extraordinary history.

The piscture is no more that a snap taken in my less serious day with the pocket 2MP Ricoh. It came out quite nicely though.
