Photographer's Note

This is the classical view of Loja taken from the Mirador de Sylvania. I made a point of stopping here as I was driving through Loja at about 1400 yesterday because the light was perfect and I wanted to capture the recent snow on the Sierra Nevada. From this Mirador you can see the spires of Loja’s three main churches and the old Arab castle the Alcazaba.
This same view appears in the Marx Brothers 1933 film Duck Soup when Loja doubles for the mythical Kingdom of Sylvania.
