Photographer's Note
the bohol beach club resort, one of the most visited resorts in the philippines. if i remember right, this place is where PAL (philippine airlines) shoot one of its commercial endorsements.
i am not very contended with this capture's result. i think the sand (beach) is overexposed/underexposed. anybody would like to teach me how to correct that?
one of the cottages here is being reserved for Karen Arnold (dareco) who will be flying to this place soon.
enjoy your stay, karen!

A little piece of 'heaven on earth' :) One of the nicest beaches I've ever been to. I was at this resort, and in fact have many similar pictures. I love this picture for the memories. Thank you!

Hi Ben,
you came back with this lovely sea escape photography. I wish I could be there right now...I get a headache and a lot of problems to solve. The scene brings a nice and tranquil atmosphere. You've composed very well, placing the palm leaves at the left and huts in perspective. Great job!

Hi Benedict!
Good to see some post from you again of our country.
How I miss Bohol and with the airfare promo right now here, its just very tempting to go there again.
As for your photo, I feel that the exposure is just right as the details in the sand can still be seen.
Tfs,
Andrew

Para sakin tama lang ang exposure. Ikaw ang mas nakakaalam if may OE sa live view mo nung kinunan mo ang napakagandang image na ito. Mahusay ka talaga Bro

Hi Benedict,
A very good scene from BBC. I stayed here one time but vowed not to come back again. BBC would not let in some newly acquainted Pinoys from nearby Alona Beach as my guests. Such discrimination among kababayans. I probably will swing by the Phil by Feb. 09 after I attend a friend's wedding in Bali. Regards, Danilo...

even though I'm not sure about the frame, the photo itself is a perfect vacation scene, wouldn't mind sitting right there right now :) I like a lot how you composed the shot, the line of the palm trees on the left creates a strong perspective that draws the eye into the scene. the beautiful sky is an added bonus, very nice.
best,
Kristine
p.s. there's nothing wrong with the exposure as far as I'm concerned. a little more clarity would be great, but that particular Nikor lens together with the thick Hoya filter does tend to muddy things a little. besides, you have lots of tiny details - sand, texture of the palm leaves on those huts, that might suffer from file compression. I'm told that gradual downsizing helps, but I haven't tried that, so cannot comment.

Hi Benedict,
Despite you not being contented with this shot, I think it's a fine effort. The composition is nice and the colours are fantastic. Perhaps the sand is a little over exposed, but not to the point of detriment. To get the sand correctly exposed would make everything else in the photo darker, so I think this is a good compromise.
If you want to know if you've overexposed a photo, then either look at the histogram in playback, and look for high peaks off the right hand side of the scale, or I believe your camera should have the option of 'highlight alert' in the menu. If you check this option, when looking at the photo in playback any over exposed parts will flash. This is really useful if you need to check there and then. Hope this helps

And are you already living here for good? That's just great, Benedict. I wonder when will I have the oportunity to go there as well...I don't know if anyone already reply to you, but overexposition is the worst one can have and cannot be corrected. But, I don't think the sand is that bad here since we still can see well the texture of it and everything else compensates. I mean, I like your framing with this palmleaves in FG, which are sharp and clear and the sky is gorgeous. The view of the umbrellas and more distant view also enhances the pic. A wonderful sight of paradise that contrasts with the rainny day I see outside of my window.

Hi Benedict,
It's a beautiful place. Like the bulk of your critiques, I agree that the beach isn't really over-exposed. I played with it a bit but didn't really come up with anything markedly better. Avene mentions clarity.
You might download the free trial version of Lightroom for 30 days. It has a slider just for clarity and is way easier to use than Photoshop; although I do still use photo shop to get the sizing just right.

Hi Benedict,
In the day that Winter arrived, it's very pleasing to look at an idyllic tropical paradise like this. You did a very nice visual arrangement with the palm leaves and the straw umbrellas. I can't understand why you aren't satisfied with the exposure, as it looks great to me. I think that OE is unavoidable in cases like these and usually it doesn't disturb me, as it looks very natural, but I almost don't even notice it here.
Regards, José.

Hi Ben,
The sky looks absolutely superb. The pov and the repetition of the straw parassols loks very nice.
As for the overexposed beach I think you should have exposed from the beach and maybe used a graduated filter.???
