Melbourne night, a photo from Victoria, East

Photographer's Note

After more than two weeks spent in Australian outback, I was amazed to see the big city of Melbourne. Andrew and Santo helped us to go to the hotel and although it was already quite late in the evening, we went for a night walk around Yarra River. it was wonderful , thank you guys!! Central Business District (CBD) of Greater Melbourne's metropolitan area looks fabulous in the night. I hope you like it too.
I had no tripod.

Zdravo Malgo. With your photos of Australia i am just realizing what a competent photographer you really are. I would never think photographing from this side of the Yarra and looking at this brilliant result, it has been my loss. Fantastic reflections. WOW back at ya! What a great shot! What I like most about this is that most of these kinds of shots on TE are content to just reflect on the water a clear and accurate reflection but yours makes the reflections look like impressionist painting type brush strokes which adds a more original and creative dimension to this. Fantastic image - I love it. Well done.

rewelacyjna nocna panorama Melbourne!4sek bez statywu,ale swietnie sobie poradzilas.Co prawda zdjecie jest lekko poruszone,ale w tym przypadku wyglada jakby ten efekt byl wynikiem obrobki zdjecia w Photoshopie(szczegolnie widoczne jest to na powierzchni wody,ktora wyglada niczym obraz).
Zamierzony czy nie efekt graficzny jest po prostu SUPER!

Hello Malgo,

I suppose you used a wall or a support of some kind for such a slow shutter speed. You didn't need a tripod. This is superb!
Melbourne looks to be aglow in its night finery and as if that wasn't enough, the effect is repeated in the river water.

I would imagine you are reliving every happy memory as you post these shots for us to share!

a gorgeous and colourful atmosphere here. Wonderful view. Captured nicely. The light is managed perfecty and the sharpness is superb. Very well composed frame. Tfs.

Hello Malgo,even without a tripod you have managed to keep the camera steady long enough to get the exposure spot on for this spectacular night scene.
The highlight details are stunning and the composition first rate. Very well done.

You are making others jealous and surprised by announcing that you did n't have a tripod to shot. Viewers are sure to burn with envy, with this pride catch of yours. In the absence of tripod, the railings or the bench top or car top can be judiciously used, and the results are awesome.
Water seems to be polished again and again and one feel like skating on the mirror below.
I am sure this shot will inspire the photographers living near by and visiting this part to repeat and Thank You for this different POV.

Je trouve très spectaculaire cette photo de nuit. Les lumières sont spectaculaires et donnent de très beaux reflets dans les eaux calmes. La ville semble très belle.

The reflections here are just beautiful Malgo - they look like brush strokes of light and I could lose myself just staring at them. The very dark sky is perfect here acting as a perfect foil for the stunning cityscape of light. Warm regards Rosemary

Czesc,
ale kolorowo tutaj! Piekny obraz z Antypodow. Wielkie miasto z odbiciami swiatel w wodzie. Dobry POV. Piszesz o braku statywu ale chyba aparat na czyms oparlas. Dobra ostrosc na 4 sek. Podoba mi sie.

this is a marvellous picture. I love its fascinating graphic quality, the way the rich and attractive urban view is laid out in the frame and the accentuated role of the reflections, which are vibrant and mesmerising, an abstract interpretation of the city. The railing on the right introduces a solid perspective that balances the composition and carries some more reflections. The luminous colours are delicious. There's great sharpness and a superbly moderated glow. The tone of the night sky is wonderful. Congratulations and thank you!

wczoraj zabraklo mi smileys a dzisiaj wyslalem juz komentarz do tego zdjecia ale serwer sie zacial. Drugi raz nigdy sie juz nie ma tak wlasciwych slow...
Piekne miejsce pelne czaru i atmosfery. Znakomita jakosc pomimo ze juz jest po blue hour i noc ciemna i ze nie uzywalas statywu. Mysle ze jedno i drugi by troche wzmocnilo efekt np daloby sie wowczas uniknac poreczy. Fantastyczne odbicia bardzo zywe kolory po prostu opad szczeny.

Woha, for a shot without tripod it is amazingly sharp and clear. There is not even any noticable noise as I suppose you had to boost the ISO quite high for a handheld shot here?
The colors are gorgeous, truly a very pleasant composition.

So tell me, which city did you prefer....Melbourne or Sydney? and why? no pressure :)
I often hear that Melbourne is actually more beautiful and perhaps calmer than busy Sydney...but i guess its all subjective right? I'd like to hear your thoughts too.

hard to capture the city at night without a tripod Malgo! haha
I'm not a big fan of the electric blues, but i do loke the dark blacks, the reflections and the yellow honeycomb window-look.
Melbourne looks beautiful, I feel at home here :)

good shot though without the tripod as that bridge deck is pretty sharp!

Hello Malgo,
For some reason this picture makes me think of an old hit song, "Bright lights big city". That title sums it up very well. Melbourne looks impressive from this angle where there is so much water to reflect the light from lamps, windows and neon signs. You did this very well without a tripod.

A stunning night scene, Malgo.
the 4 sec. exp. enhanced lightened areas on pic. but also gave extra "smoothing" on the reflection part of the image.
