Photographer's Note

In 2007 we spent a night in Sendai before visiting nearby Matsushima which is often described as one of the three most scenic sites in Japan.

Today Sendai is close to the epicentre of the largest earthquake to hit Japan. The 8.9 magnitude earthquake, the 10 metre tsunami it triggered and the explosion at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant have caused unprecedented damage.

I remember Sendai as a non-hectic and colourful city with wide tree-lined streets. This is a tribute to the people of Sendai - our thoughts are with you.

It is so painful that these people, happy here, suffered so much in this unprecedented disaster. beautiful photo from this city that got the hardest blow. Our thought are with these people.

This is a great tribute to the people of Sendai and the entire region. The devastation is huge but I believe the people of Japan will have the will to reconstruct again to its former glory.

Let's hope that this city recovers, it is a such a terriible event. This shot, the angle, makes it look like you are shooting froma high position, very interesting angle.

This is a nice tribute to the people of Sendai and to all the Japanese in general ! Very good POV which shows how disciplined they are : Here waiting patiently at a huge pedestrian crossing, like they are now reacting stoically at their huge ordeal.

Hello Marlene, A thoughtful & fitting tribute, it would be better if circumstances were such that this tribute to the Japanese people in general & the people of Sendai in particular was unnecessary but unfortunately just the magnitude of the devastation makes it impossible to ignore.
All these people waiting to cross the road, I assume, is some what emblematical to the events that were to follow several years later.
