The Moon Shows Off, a photo from Tasmania, East

Photographer's Note

ENGLISH: I was lucky enough to see a full moon whilst staying on the East Coast of Tasmania. This is the moon at about 10:30pm over Georges Bay at St Helens. St Helens is the largest town on the East Coast, about 2 hours drive from Launceston and the gateway to the Bay of Fires. Prior to shooting the photo (I took only 6 shots most of them no good), I had sat on the banks of this Bay with a bottle of wine and some fresh oysters, waiting for the moon :)

ITALIANO: Mentre ero a Tasmania sulla costiera ovest, sono stato fortunata abbastanza a vedere la luna piena. Questa e la luna alle 22:30 sopra Georges Bay a St Helens. St Helens e il cittadine piu grande sulla costiera e vicino la Baia di Fuochi, circa 2 ore da Launceston. Prima ho preso questo colpo (preso solo 6 colpi) stavo aspettando per la luna. Ho aspettato per essa sulle banche della baia con un picola bottiglia di vino e tante ostriche :)

Hello Lisa,
Good timing for that opening in the clouds, it looks like the cloud cover was fairly thick. I am surprised that they moved very little with a 13s exposure. The reflections are splendid. Must have been a very special moment, especially with the provisions you mentioned :-)

Did you have someone serenading you with "Moonlight becomes you"? Only, joking :-) A very atmospheric composition with warm tones and good sharpness. Made for me by the streaky reflections on the silk like water and the backlit clouds.

I'll pass on the oysters, but the wine sounds good. ;D I love how the shadows seem to open up to make room for the moon's reflection. The long exposure has made the surface of the sea like silk. The presence of the clouds has disguised the lack on detail on the moon. I know to my cost it's impossible to expose the moon correctly and still be able to see anything else. That means you need to do two exposures and blend them; never easy to do. A beautiful moonscape.

Qui est plus utile, le soleil ou la lune ? La lune, bien entendu, elle brille quand il fait noir, alors que le soleil brille uniquement quand il fait clair.

Buongiorno Lisa,
la luce della luna sull'acqua del mare è molto particolare, specialmente perchè è dorata e crea una piacevole atmosfera.
Avrei però tagliato un pò sotto in quanto c'è troppo spazio buio rispetto la zona illuminata.

Funnily it does not look so much like a moonlight image for the light source seems too strong to be the moon, looks fun to go skating on the foreground frozen water ;-)

Yep nice verticle with the moon light bursting reflections. I like the small sparkle of house lights in the distance. They look warm and inviting places top be at.

Hi Lisa,
Ah, so romantic, the yellow light reflecting on the water does it for me.
From our conversation yesterday this could have been one of those times where you combined two exposures, the longer one for the water and a shorted one to get the night clouds a lot sharper.
I really like the colours, excellent.

Hi Lisa, A most unusual and effective image of the moons reflection on the sea. The break in the refelction I would imagine is caused by the break in the clouds. I also like your style as a photographer, sitting on the beach, with wine and oysters , waiting for the moon- luxurious and great way of approaching a wonderful hobby. My only trip to Tas was about ten years ago and just loved it, loved the country and the people. Watch lots of cricket down in Hobart - and in fact had a drink with a young cricketers at the time by the name of Ricky Ponting. Have a great evening. Rich
