I am NOT a penguin, I am a blackbird and this weather is not right for me!

The other day I woke up to 3 cm of virgin snow! Looking out of the window I noticed a black little fellow, leaving desperate footprints behind in a useless search for food…

Migrating birds are guided by the light and not by the temperature on the destination. Well – I assume so. Or maybe they have some kind of biological clock, telling them when it is time to go North…

This returning blackbird (Turdus merula) clearly isn’t satisfied with conditions as they are, the ground is frozen and covered with snow and it is impossible to find a decent meal of worms!

As it is I learned that cheese is a fine replacement for worms, and now I have a colony of blackbirds in the nearest tree, all waiting for the next meal to be served…

the image is splendid in all its aspects, technical and graphical.
Its a lovely image, with a very sweet subject, but it's also a very well composed scene... this strong b&W, the great contrast and the red mouth are superb.

The way the bird is placed in the frame, it is giving a sense of depth. The pont of view is showing the details and colors of the blackbird. There is a good contrast between the colors. Have a nice day.

In Belgium remain the blackbirds during the winter, this is a great pleasure during the winter in my garden the different birds to see
Lovely that you gives cheese as food, this as animal friend.

ce merle serait plus heureux chez moi, au Québec, il n'y a presque plus de neige et on nous annonces des températures record pour la saison, 24 à 26c pour cette fin de semaine, j'aime beaucoup le contraste du noir et du blanc de toute beauté.

Excellent simplistic shot. The blackbird's position is excellent and you could the texture of the snow very well in this "B & W" photo. What is also a bit amusing is the bird's footprints in the snow. TFS and Happy Easter!

Your very sharp close-up really shows the blackbird's look of puzzlement.

Cheese is a good tip, we have a huge flock of robins and intermittent snow. The other day a robin marched through the snow right up to the door, seeming to demand that we provide breakfast.

Hi Pablo,
This little fellow stand out brillantly against that fresh blanket of snow.
The textures and exposur to the snow is spot on.
Here in my neck of the woods temps are unsually warm for early spring which brings out the skunks digging for worms. My dog almost got sprayed the other night but fortunately only the back yard stunk.

This is delightful!!
And ... definitely NOT a penguin!
The bird is perfectly positioned in the frame whilst the tilt of his head directs the viewer to the confusion of tracks, leading the eyes to each corner of the frame. His expression adds to the impression so ably picked out by your title.
I'm so glad you added the w/s, just to prove that he did solve the problem!!

very nice image. the contrast is fabulous and even the great difference of colors don't spoils the compo, the sharpness is perfect. congratulations
here we are facing the first lower temperatures of the year, not so much but our bodies were used to the summer higher temperatures and we will take some weeks to be prepared to lower temperatures of the winter.

Hello Pablo,

Excellent animal shot with the bird well located on the right of the composition. The black and red colors on the bird arise very well in the white of the snow. Very plesant play of light in this snow too.

Thanks for your critique of my prayer hall shot. That was a good one, the interior of a restaurant, indeed it could be, however sometimes there is something more, what we need, we have to feed our soul as well.
