Photographer's Note

Band-e Amir is one of the most attractive tourist places in the world. A series of six clear, blue lakes are located on the north side of the Koh-e Baba (Baba mountain) in Bamian province in central part of Afghanistan.
The lakes are formed by the flow of water over a succession of natural dams, running from the higher to the next one below. According to local tradition the dams were the creation of Hazarat-e Ali (Caliph Ali), and the word "Amir" (King or Commander) referes to the Caliph, not to any Afgan ruler
