I travelled to Vietnam with a preconceived notion of what people and places are going to be like. Quite unusually i was shooting landscapes and nature and architecture. I prefer contact and photograph people since it comes naturally to me. But this trip to Vietnam and Cambodia was more of a self discovery. I was ggoing back to the basics, what i did 10 years back in the Himalayan Mountains. Chasing the forms of nature, racing against time to catch the first light, the sunrise over a peak.

There i was standing in the ticket counter to get the one day pass. the only one around at 4AM in a rush to catch the sunrise over the GREAT ANGKOR WAT.

On the Tuk Tuk (motorised form of a miniature chariot !) at 430AM under full moon, i am on a mission, to catch the "spectacular" sunrise over the ANGKOR WAT, so i was told.

The Tuk Tuk driver dropped me off in the middle of no where, the infamous "right side" of the ANGKOR, as planned. Under the full moon, i find myself dwarfed under the tall shadows of trees and reflections on the nearby pool with lilies. An overall eerie reception, my sunrise seemed distant. Moments later, a mo-bike offers to give me a lift. long story short, i catch the first light.

Subtle, divine, pure, the light was phenomenal, i didn't care about the sunrise anymore, what i witnessed was unique, an unearthly, surreal representation of a world unknown.

THE ANGKOR WAT, oh what a joy. DARKNESS gave birth to such beauty.
