I could never see these houses for what they were--slums. Here a young girl sat quietly unaware that she was my subject. Shot with a 45mm (24mm in 35mm format)the wideness of the lens eluded her.

This is quite good compositionally, I am surprised it has gone uncritiqued so far - it looks great in B&W. I think this photo could benefit from a couple things though: it seems to be on a slant from right to left -- is that slant in the stairs and platform, or is the whole image on a tilt? Also I think it could use a bit of sharpening, that might add to the overall gritty feel of the photo.

I love the mood of this photo. Although I can see where stevep is coming from and would like to see his advice in a WS, I think that the softness ad angle of this picture actually work well. Since the subject itself is very imperfect, the formal imperfections enhance the point of the shot. It's great. TFS
