Photographer's Note
What is unusual about this picture? This woman has two children. In 1983, it was strictly forbidden to have more than one child. But twins happen.
This is my first attempt at scanning some old slides and I am not that happy with the results. I hope I can improve my technique and repost later.

Interesting capture of daylife. It's good when a picture besides esthetic value has something interesting to convey.

Scanning old slides, what a joy and what a pain. (I did 12,000 of mine. It took over a year.)
It looks like your slides, like mine have started to deteriorate, the edges are softening, detail is going.
I played with this one in PSE and posted my results in the Workshop. Don't take my work as an example of what could be done by someone with good editing skills. I'm just trying to encourage you.
The largest problem is that the image is too bright. You can see that there is some color in the image when I decreased the brightness.
Sharpening helps bring out the detail.
Try rescanning and see if you can produce a darker, richer file to work from.
Hope you continue to pull out these pieces of history and share with us.

Very interesting post. The sharpness isn't crisp, the water is overexposed, all the colors are maybe a little bit to brown BUT I like the result and the overall feeling very much. The frame looks good.
The only thing that I don't like is the light shadow or whatever it is on the top right of the shot.
I encourage you to continue to dig out treasures (for my own pleasure).
