Photographer's Note

This was taken during our trek from the Jinshanling (lit. means 'gold mountain ridge) to the Simatai (lit. means 'cavalry commander's podium??') sections of the wall.

This part of the wall's largely unrestored since it was built a few hundred years ago, when the government decided to close China to the outside world and also suspended the naval voyages that went as far as east Africa...etc

You could see clearly, on the left, how bad the condition is. Care had to be taken when walking it. There're also some tourists there, most foreigners and several locals trying to sell them drinks or were acting as guides... see them in the workshop
