Photographer's Note
here I want to show you the steepness and scale of the wall. I think using my Leica was a good choice here, because I find that the tone and grain of the Tri-X conforms so well the ancient scent of this amazing structure...
Sorry about the softness, it's probably because I was breathing heavily while standing on the edge of a steep step...
*****Please see the workshop to understand what I meant by difficulty in climbing.****
Nice weekend everyone

Hi Cheuk,
Another fine black and white composition. The wall helps the perspective very much, leading the eyes.Like an old postcard!
Best wishes,
Thomas

Are you sure that isn't some fancy wire work a la Crouching Tiger in the workshop, Cheuk? It looks like he's descending a vertical stone wall rather than steps. Talk about steep!
Personally I prefer the shot in the WS, but I like this one too. Here the line of the wall and the use of black and white gives the image a strong graphic quality, and I think raising the contrast even further wouldn't have done any harm. The highlights could do with darkening a bit as well.
Still, I like this for it's simplicity and the graphic nature of the image that I mentioned earlier.
Good work.
Cheers,
Ben

Hi Cheuk,
Well, like Ben, I prefer the shot in the WS so I'll comment that one. The compo is good with the man well placed on one of the picture's strong points and one really gets the idea of the steepness while viewing that photo. Regarding this shot, the idea of B&W is very good and accentuates the ancient aspect of this place, but personnally I don't feel the steepness when looking at that one. Perhaps because the the bottom right hand corner is a bit too dark.
Have a nice day.

Hi Cheuk
Good lead in lines & linear perspective from the Wall itself, with excellent sharpness & tonal range, in this superb b&w image. Tfs! Xie Xie!

Hi Cheuk Hin,
Being not much of a BW fan I went to see the WS and altough this one is is nice and shows a good deep perspective of the snaking wall I prefer the WS for the feel of steepness and the human element.
Have a nice sunday,
Jean-Yves

Indeed your Leica works very well to give back so many tones within this beautifully composed bw, Cheuk. Very nice work, again, haven't seen the Wall represented with such a graphic eyes, and it is a real eye opener for me, these crisscrossing lines up and up...
Very nice, almost abstract-looking shot, Cheuk.
Take care,
sasa

Hi CheukHin,
Quite a sensation seeing the wall disappearing right in front and continuing far below into distance.
But I actually prefer the WS, showing more details, composition with vertical and horizontal parts, human presence and colour.

Hi Cheuk,
Good to see some film (and that too Tri-X) for a change. Excellent POV showing how steep it must be. One of those timeless photos.
