Photographer's Note

We spent our first day in China in Guangzhou. We stayed in the hotel in Shamian Island so we could go for sightseeing on foot. It was a bit like jump in the deep water. Guangzhou (Canton) is the third big city in China (13,5 mln inhabitants). People do not speak English, everywhere only Chinese signs. No Google, Google Map, Facebook or You Tube, so how to get information?? I took renminbi(yuans) from Warsaw but my friend had dollars So we went to Bank of China, probably the biggest bank there, to change 500 dollars into yuan. I do not exaggerate - it lasted 1,5 (one and half) hour. There here several clerks, who looked at the passport, then in the computer, then again passport, a paper was printed, again pass, and comp.... Ten sheets of papers were printed for just 500 bucks. I was furious but we could not do anything. (later I just took money from ATM in three minutes).
we visited many places, popular and less known. late afternoon when we were going to the hotel, I saw a back street, we wnet there and we saw what I show on the picture. Beautiful something like big palace, near the canal, with lovely bridges. Unfortunately it was closed already.
Of course, we couldn't read what it was. Mystery is, that I can't find it anywhere. We wanted to go there again, but we stayed later in another hotel and had no time. I made virtual walk later at home in Google Map, I looked at many pictures in Internet -
nothing. I find it very strange.
