Traditional festival in China for Dragon Boat with Firecrackers.

It was Dragon Boat festival in China last week. I went to Guangzhou's LieDe village to watch their celebration. This festival is tradition for Chinese people over 2000 years.

It is one of China's most exciting festivals, featuring fierce dragon boats ceremon and racing. Local dragon boat races take place throughout the country.

The purpose of the Festival original ws to commemorate the death of a Chinese national hero Qu Yuan. During the third century B.C., he was trying to in protest against a corrupt government and finally drowned himself in the Mi Lo River.

People try to rescue him and protect his body inside the river by hitting the heavy drum to scare away the fishes.

Nowaday, this becomes festival for people to celebrate and praying in dadditional to race and decorates the dragon boats to the beat of heavy drums.

Along the river, the boats are following the harmony of the drum and doing the same action.

The photo here shows few "leaders" at the front of the boat and directing the way of the boat to going. They synchrnoize the movement of their body with the harmony of hte drum. Sometimes they also fire the firecrackers. see this. This is firecrackers burning. or this.

Somtimes they will have racing.

This is the theme of the series.
