Photographer's Note

On a sunny Sunday afternoon on Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade.

Many things have been told and written about Hong Kong. I'd like to quote some famous declarations made about this astonishing place through its history :

"A barren island with hardly a house upon it ! It will never be a mart for trade. You have treated my instructions as if they were waste paper." Lord Palmerson, British Foreign Secretary, to Captain Charles Elliot (1841).

"Vice must be pretty much the same all over the world, but if a man wishes to get out of pleasure with it, let him go to Hong Kong".
Rudyard Kipling, "From Sea to Sea" (1889)

"Hong Kong ... works splendidly - on borrowed time in a borrowed place".
Han Suyin, "Hong Kong's Ten-Year Miracle" (1959)
