Photographer's Note
Day II - 5:13 pm
The Jingshan Park, thanks to its small hill, protect the Forbidden City from the bad spirits, who usually arrive from North. It provides a great panoramic view on the whole city too !
From there, you understand Beijing is a fusion of multiple worlds : old ones, traditional ones, "daily-life" ones, spiritual ones or even futuristic ones...
This is the future National Grand Theatre of China, designed by french architect Paul Andreu : a complex, opening soon, with an opera, two theatres and a music hall...

Hi Stephane
This is a good documentary image showing the 'darker' side of the city. The atmosphere you have got is powerful and this is a nice compo of old & new. And I'd personally prefer BW tones to further dramatize the 'dim' atmosphere. I have done a WS for you. Overall I find this a good 'reality' photograph.
Cheers,
CheukHin

Hi Stephane
I really like to revisit Beijing through your daily uploads.
This national theatre looks new to me, i am pretty sure that i didn't see it when i was there, but you also write that it hasn't opened yet, so that is probably why.
The contrast you caught here, is also what impresses me most about visiting china, the very old world next to the new one.
Nice work and thanks
Harry

I think I would have brightened the dark older roofs in this one Stephane. Nonetheless it does make an interesting study to see the contrast between the two places. Nicely done!

Hi Stephane
Interesting contrast between new and old world traditional. The classic architecture is well captured in the shot and the tower blocks and the National Grand theatre add an interesting contrast in modern styles and impact. The overall light is heavy, due to the rain no doubt, and adds a rather sultry look to the scene. It is still well conveyed though, with a good deal of atmosphere. Well done.

The point you make in your note is well conveyed. There is such contrasts between the different eras and architectural styles. The light conditions were not good to say the least. Cheuk Hin's WS has minimised the effect of the bad light. B&W is not my favourite medium but sometimes it works well as in this case I think

A very nice view of the city. I like a lot the contrast between the traditional roofs in the foreground with the modern building behind them. The hazy city in the background looks nice as well. Good work!

Hi Stephane...
It's a wonderful point of view, my friend... The old and the new... Yes there are the worlds here... The light and the details are perfect... The contrast between the cold and warm colors are perfect too...
TFS...
Stay well..
Salim.
