Photographer's Note

My friend came back to Xi'an for a few days to sort out a few things before she returned home. We wanted to do something that we didn't while both of us were in Xi'an. We decided to stroll the old Ming city wall as neither of us had done it before. We only managed to walk half of the 20 km length and took a few shots before my battery went flat just before I wanted to capture the sunset. It was really one of the most beautiful ones amongst the few I have seen so far. I don't really get to go out in the evening because of my work schedule, altough I'd love to shoot the sunsets in and around Xi'an.

Well, the number of these marching figurines on the roof of the East Gate house shows that it was a fairly important building. In front of the procession is a man riding a mythical bird, the phoenix, followed by other mythical beasts and finally by a dragon. I have enclosed the link where you could read about Chinese roof decoration in detail:

Well, we thought they looked like a Chinese family on picnic on a fine August afternoon.

cheers,
Gabriel
