Photographer's Note

In the Mestia valley, in the Georgian Caucasus, you can admire many small villages that are carved from the ancient towers that symbolized the economic power of the family that owned them. This small village has never been shown on TE, so I thought it would be worth it. I'm not able to retrieve news on the web, so I leave just the name, and it is at an altitude of 1645 mt. A widespread view in the WS.

ZHAMUSHI

Nella valle di Mestia, nel Caucaso georgiano, si possono ammirare molti piccoli villaggi che sono caraterizzati dalle antiche torrette che erano simbolo di potenza economica della famiglia che le possedeva. Questo piccolo villaggio non è mai stato mostrato su TE, per cui ho pensato ne valesse la pena. Non si riescono a recuperare notizie sul web, per cui vi lascio solo il nome, e che si trova ad una altitudine di 1645 mt. Una vista molto allargata nel WS.

En voyant les tours, j'ai pensé à une forteresse sans les murs. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des tours et des maisons. La bonne luminosité fait ressortir la beauté des couleurs. Bonne soirée.

Ciao Luciano, Wonderful small village and every house has its tower. fascinating part of Georgia. I do not remember it, but probably I had to go near it. Nice also the wider view of the valley.

It could have been a very ordinary village but the towers make it absolutely fascinating. Both photos show amazing views, and even though there are some similar villages in this part of Georgia it is always a pleasure to see pictures of a place never before shown on TE. It sort of gives us a unique experience.

Una nuova scoperta, questa villa, l'architettura del Medioevo è notata in ogni dettaglio, l'idea delle torri mi ricorda in qualche modo di qualche architettura medioevale italiana ... Una bella immagine con il suo contrasto di colori e forme ... in più il workshop aiuta bene a includere la villa nel suo paesaggio ... Buona idea!

This village would seem to emulate San Gimignano in the number of its towers:-) They sit well against their verdant surroundings. The couple of red roofs supply some splashes of contrasting tone. Fine technical realisation.

You found a great POV to overlook this remarkable town with its many tall towers next to the roofs of the houses. The towers seem much older than the rest of the village. I like the soft and pleasant sunlight a lot too.

This must be Georgia's answer to the towers of Bologna! But the note makes it sound more like the towers of Kaiping in south China where each tower was a display of wealth by rich merchants, & entrepreneurs, many of whom made their fortunes overseas. Good sharpness and flattened perspective from the zoom. Tfs!

Towers that really similar to San-Gimignano in Toscana, but on a smaller scale, Luciano, and I wonder what made people in older era "compete" for this status symbol - but the sight is wonderful.
Light and colors gave excellent ambiance to the scene.

What a remarkable place and how unbelievable that this isn’t a touristic landmark. Probably the village isn’t easy to access and/or the touristic information office isn’t very active….

Wonderful with the different huge towers built on approximately the same distance from each other.

Ciao Caro Luciano,

It was a good idea to post both photographs for the w/s reveals the spectacular location whilst this, main post, gives us more intimate details.
The towers are the most spectacular features, making viewers wonder about their significance, since they do not appear to follow the normal defensive role! (Your notes explain this.) But, they do make this a village like no other! So, today, we have seen a village never posted before, with towers of a nature never seen before! A double whammy!

These old towers are fascinating. There are many of them in this one, small town. This looks like a place untouched by time. Are they well-connected to the world by modern means such as the internet? Are the residents mostly older people? I like the WS view, too. We can see just how remote and isolated this village is.

Very interesting town here, I like the repeated motif of the tower. Thy seem so unique!
Quite extraordinary village with the towers appearing as if randomly placed throughout the place.

Luciano, these ancient towers give to that mountain landscape its own particularity. The village houses were built around them. Some cultivated fields are located in the periphery. Excellent global view captured from an elevated viewpoint. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.
