Photographer's Note

Sunshine in the Ganges : This shot was taken from Prinsep Ghat on the eastern bank of the River Hooghly.The lone boat was moving in the middle of the river and the sun rays was reflected from the waters of the river.Excellent view of the Howrah town could be had from across the river.

Some tidbits about the Hooghly river.

The Hooghly River is near about 260 kilometres long distributary of the Ganga or Ganges River in West Bengal, India. It splits from the Ganges as a canal in Murshidabad District at the Farakka Barrage.
The river provides perennial supply of water to the plain of West Bengal for irrigation and human & industry consumption. The river is navigable and the major transport system in the region with a huge traffic flow. The river is also polluted. For a long time, the Calcutta Port was the biggest port of India. Though in the past its significance had gone down, but recently it had again came up to the 3rd position in the list of Indian Ports. The fish from the river are important to the local economy.

Beautiful composition. Shooting against the sun is difficult but you did a wonderful job with this photo. Good timing on getting the boat in the picture. Well done, tfs.

Hello Farhat,
Difficult to control the exposure in situations like this, but you have been reasonably successful here. The thing that makes the picture for me is the boat; it is well placed in the frame and contributes much to the atmosphere of the composition.

Hello Farhat,

You're capturing well this place by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the calm Ganges river dyed to gold color by sunlight and the traditional boat rowing the river as if timeless. It's good contrast with the greenery and houses of the opposite shore. And, the light projected to the river draws out a good effect.

I am not sure if this is a golden tone or one of silver, but whatever it is this strange colour gives the photo a strong atmosphere. The lone boat is well placed and we can see the strong sunrays casting their bright reflections in the water. A very nice view.

Notwithstanding a very well picture with these big river as subject together the boat as extra touch at the picture

The boat in the foreground, in opposition to the city in the background attenuated by atmospheric haze contours, gives a good idea of the breadth of what this majestic river Ganges, and exeptionnelle light magnifies its sacredness.

even with the overly bright light on the left, it seems to work well with the dimmed light in all the other areas of the scene.
