Photographer's Note

Langar is the term used in the Sikh religion for free food, served in a Gurdwara. At the Langar, only vegetarian food is served to ensure that all people, regardless of their dietary restrictions, can eat as equals. Langar is open to Sikhs and non-Sikhs alike.

Moved by the faith in god, ladies doing there part of community service free of cost at Golden Temple, the holiest place for Sikhs. Participants for the preparation of Lanagar can also be anyone as can it be anyone to join to eat.

Jugnu, this is a beautiful shot ! I like the light coming from the left side. The two ladies are busy in peeling onions. This is a part of our culture here in India, and I appreciate your effort to emphasize its importance.

Hello Jugnu,

This is an excellent shot, with the strong light at high elevation illuminating the saris of the two women. Your note, also, is informative contributing to a fine TE-package. Many years ago I had met a young American socialite named Hope Cooke, just before her marriage to the Crown Prince of Sikkim. Unhappily, for the Princely Family, the marriage went sour shortly afterwards, and so did the fate of the Principality.
