Metropolitan Building : This is the image of the famous Metropolitan Building located on Jawaharlal Nehru Road in Calcutta near Esplanade.It is used as a residential and a commercial building.Formerly known as the Whiteway Laidlaw department store, it was a famous department store in Calcutta during the British Rule in India.It was at that time Asia’s largest departmental store is a landmark of Esplanade Square & a superb example of British Raj architecture.

This neo-baroque emporium—with domes, a clock tower, and arched recessed windows—exemplifies fashionable shopping during the British Raj in British India. The building was built in early 20th century.

This is an awesome building. It is a pity that the ground floor is covered with visual pollution. From that and your note I am surmising that the building has fallen from its former glory.

Hello Farhat,

You're capturing well this architecture by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the the building served for both of the dwelling and the commerce. It seems to have many feathers of neo-baroque style, domes with indian style, a clock tower and arched windows as you note in here. It is a big architectural heritage in British colonial times. And, it's interested with many stalls in front of the building.

This is a very regal looking building, quite impressive architecture and detail you've presented with this shot! Even without anything in particular being highlighted, it appears to be bathed in some nice, warm light which has added to the visual appeal. The soft yellow color set against the blue backdrop of the sky has made for a pleasant mixture of color and atmosphere.
