Photographer's Note
The Lady and the Yak : Again this is an old image from my travel to Nathula in Sikkim at the end of 2012.This image was taken at Changu Lake with a lady riding a yak for a trip round the lake. The barren rocks of the region are evident in the background.
Some tidbits about the Yak :
Wild yaks are among the largest bovids and are second only to the gaur in shoulder height. They are also the largest native animal in their range. Wild yak adults stand about 1.6 to 2.2 m (5.2 to 7.2 ft) tall at the shoulder and weigh 305–1,000 kg (672–2,205 lb). The head and body length is 2.5 to 3.3 m (8.2 to 11 ft), not counting the tail of 60 to 100 cm (24 to 39 in). The females are about one-third the weight and are about 30% smaller in their linear dimensions when compared to bull wild yaks.Domesticated yaks are much smaller, males weighing 350 to 580 kg (770 to 1,280 lb) and females 225 to 255 kg (496 to 562 lb).
Yaks are heavily built animals with a bulky frame, sturdy legs, and rounded cloven hooves. They are the only wild bovids of this size with extremely dense, long fur that hangs down lower than the belly. Wild yaks are generally dark, blackish to brown, in coloration. However, domestic yaks can be quite variable in color, often having patches of rusty brown and cream. They have small ears and a wide forehead, with smooth horns that are generally dark in colour. In males, the horns sweep out from the sides of the head, and then curve forward; they typically range from 48 to 99 cm (19 to 39 in) in length. The horns of females are smaller, only 27 to 64 cm (11 to 25 in) in length, and have a more upright shape. Both sexes have a short neck with a pronounced hump over the shoulders, although this is larger and more visible in males.Yaks are highly friendly in nature and can easily be trained. There has been very little documented aggression from yaks towards human beings, although mothers can be extremely protective of their young and will bluff charge if they feel threatened

Hello Farhat,
She seems to be having a great time this intrepid lady on her yak. On the other hand the keeper is managing to keep a fairly straight face. Great daily life capture nicely presented with good colours and clarity. The background rock with its lovely textural detail adds further interest to the shot.

Bonjour Farhat,
J'aime beaucoup le rire de cette dame confortablement assise sur le boeuf, bien décoré pour l'occasion. Le guide semble bien surpris par ce rire de bonheur.
Amicalement

Hi Farhat,
I think the lady is too heavy to the small animal. The Yak with white head and black body, cute. It is also decorated beautifully.

Hi Farhat
What an amazing animal! Although I know of the yak, I cannot say I have seen them very often. It looks beautiful in your presentation here, so fuzzy that it could almost be a household pet. Love the colors on the horns too. The smile on the woman is warm and welcoming and makes the whole image have a very pleasant feeling. Great moment to capture
All the best

H Farhat,
The opening line of your note made me laugh, an "old image,"...not even 2 months ago. :)
Must be a fun ride, she sure seems to be enjoying herself. You've captured a candid moment which conveys the pure emotion of the moment. And on the technical side...its bright, colorful and sharply focused. An intriguing and informative cultural image, well done! Have a great day ahead.
Friendly wishes,

Hi Farhat,
The lady seems to be enjoying herself a lot riding this Yak. I have not seen anyone before riding one of these animal, as you say in your note they are big and heavy beasts.
Splendid colours, well managed especially the light.
Great one.

The lady seems cheerful, while the Yak a bit grumpy on his pose, Farhat - but let's hope it ended-up on the best side.
Fine spotted and collected the nice moment.

Hi Farhat,
I like the wide smile the lady has. You don't get such yak rides in many countries. This reminds of camel rides offered for tourists in Morocco for example.
Well framed contrasty view with a good contact to the animal.

Hi Farhat,
You're capturing well this scene by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the spectacle which a lovely yak puts a tourist on the back and is moving. It looks like an animal with the feature which has feathers of the white head and black body and is convenient although carried. And, it's also impressive the woman is enjoying to ride on it.
Kind regards,
mikio

Hello Farhat,
It's a very cute photo. The animal looks dwarfish because its hair is so close to the ground. What is the ethnicity of the yak wallah (did I use the term correctly)?

Hi Farhat.
An original composition, with the image of this powerful animal, while women rise to the yak, its expression seems to be this amusing, which contrasts with the serious expression of man.
It is a splendid portrait, very well captured.
Superb brightness and sharpness.
Have a nice weekend.
Best regards.

Namaskar dear Farhat
This photo is a joy to view. I don't know if I love the yak or the laughing lady more. She is simply wonderful and I wonder whether it was you or her husband that made her laugh so heartily. Beautiful colour, perfect composition and excellent sharpness. A delightful photo, congratulations.

Hello Farhat,
an interesting, spontaneous capture full of the energy and feelings of the moment. There's a story in your tight frame and we can see what everyone is thinking in their expressions. In spite of its spontaneity, the scene is sharp and clear, the sense of movement is well rendered. I also like the bright and vivid colours and how the shadows balance the dark colours in the left side of the frame. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,
Ourania
