Photographer's Note
I SHOOT IT AT GANGASAGAR MELA(FAIR).FOCAL LENGTH=120MM.
It is told that man may go to all the pilgrimages again and again, but a man can get all the virtues of religious performances here in gangasagar once by seeing and bathing in the sacred water of the confluence of the river ganga and the sea.
Gangasagar is the most famous pilgrimage of india. This fair is held where the Ganga and the Bay of Bengal form a nexus. Hence the name Gangasagar Mela.
People from all the provinces of india, even from the crountries abroad come here every year .The pilgrims come for a holy dip on Makar Sankranti (last day of the Bengali Month) Negha -Mid January. They take dips in the Ganges and offer water to the Sun God. The dip, as they say, purifies their 'self' and according to them, 'punya' can be obtained thus. When they are done with the ritual obligations, they head towards the Kapilmuni Temple situated nearby, to worship the deity as a mark of respect.
The pilgrimage of gangasagar is situated in the extreme southern part of west bengal in india.it is in the sagar-island in the district of south 24 parganas.it is on the seasore of the bay of bengal.
