Photographer's Note

I am sitting here back in Canada now, mulling over the countless photos from my time spent in Japan. There is a soft spot that I will forever hold for the wonderful people, places and times I had there.

This photo is one of my favorite learning experiences I encountered while I was there. I came upon this lady while I was scouring the surrounding areas of Gifu looking for rice harvesting scenes. It was an ineffable feeling to watch this lady as she went about her business of bruning brush.

My learning experience came in the way of this very kind, sweet little lady as she sat down and started talking with me. She was patient as I stumbled through a slow introduction and general particulars of my life in Japan. Despite her continuance and my lack of language skills, I failed to understand anything much past that.

The "Looking Back" is that last glance she gave me as we said farewell but more importantly, of me sitting here in Canada "Looking Back" over all those wonderful times that I had while living abroad in Japan.
