Photographer's Note
This is a picture of one of the Japanese welders in action, I really like the effect of welding caught on pictures, the sparks, smoke and harsh light really is a piece of art by itself.

Very cool working photo Harry. As you mentioned, the smoke, sparks, and harsh light are great for this photograph. BW conversion is definitly the way to go with this one. I really enjoy your photo.
Take care,
Brian

Hi, Harry
Very impressive industrial-like shot. I wonder how it looks in color, even though the B&W is stunning as it is.

A really fantastic working shot. The great angles coming from bottom right to the left (beam at bottom left corner, beam shielding opart of his head and the piece of wood coming from the right side) nicely frame the "meat of the shot...giving an angled border within the conventional frame of the photo. Tonewise the shot is extremely strong...film quality. The light casting onto the rod bucket is awesome and a particularly nice display of what is meant by "painting with light". I have yet to develope the shots I took recently of a welder, but they won't be this good.
Chris.

Great and dynamic documentary work here Harry! The framing is again spot on and I love the rendition of the sparks and melting metal. There's also something cinematographic to this one. Great stuff.
Have a fine week,

Yes, "work as art" indeed!
I like the quality of light in this one. We are here with him, we can almost smell the fume and hear the noise. Maybe the foreground is a little bit cluttered, but hey! it was not a studio shot, isn't it?
Thanks Harry to bring this kind of photos in TE. Work is a part of the world, a very great part of the world.
And not only that, but you are processing your photos well, that makes them pleasing to look at. Still amazed by what you achieved with that nice little camera of yours! :)
By the way, have you seen this theme? You might find some that are good too!
Ah! I like men at work! :)

Hello Harry -
This is a real keeper on several planes. Light management, with such a hot and bright light you were able to manage the light throughout without excessive OE except where it belongs. Composition, all of the critical elements are in dynamic places with the sparks and bright light taking center stage. Artistic input, the idea to convert to B&W was spot on and forces the viewer to look and think rather than react to color or the bright white of the arc. A "keeper" for sure, well done!
Thank you for sharing.

This is a terrific shot! Beautifully done Harry. Even the tonal values of your black and white photo is "right on"!
Thank you for your visit and comments on my photo, "Lethbridge Highway 2". I appreciate it.

Hello Harry,
I've been admiring the pictures in your gallery in general and was particularly struck by this working man series. I've always had great admiration for photographers who can shoot people (I'm limited to scenes that stay perfectly still!). This shot is perfectly composed and there's also a wonderful dynamic range, with the white sparks of the welding balancing the dark shadow areas. "Work as art" is a very apt title.
Inspired by your example, I've downloaded Paintshop Pro on a 30-day trial to experiment with that Clarify filter...
Regards
John

Very well, but don't you afraid of BURNING OUT youre camera sensor from that strong light, it's very more powerful from the light of the sun. Nice work again

Your right Harry. The light is superb. It gives off a very surreal effect. I noticed on some of the othe thumbnails a similar appearance. This is very good.
