Photographer's Note

This is the first photo I took after arriving in Tokyo.

As I emerged from Keisei-Ueno Station, after my journey from Narita Airport on the Keisei Skyliner Train, what was the very first thing that struck me?...
...not the huge buildings.
...not the masses of Japanese people around me.
...not the orange Japanese taxis. was this sign on the floor.

"Please do not smoke while walking" the sign pleads the public. I laughed, finding the sign to be so unusual and so strange to me, and interesting that these signs would exist.
Maybe it was just jetlag, but I liked this sign a lot.

I took a photo of it, but unfortunately shadows intersected the top and right of it. A sign on a pole, rather than on the pavement, might have been easier to photograph - but not as interesting and amusing, to me anyway.

I tried adjusting the contrast, to make the bright area less bright and the dark area less dark. I could not get the areas to match, however, so this is the best I could get.

The sign is still readable though, and presented in all its glory on TrekEarth.

I think the signs are unique to Ueno, as I only saw them outside the Keisei-Ueno Station and JR Ueno Station.
