Photographer's Note
I saw this girl on the train in Kyoto and had to take her picture.I'm not sure if she noticed, but she never moved from that pose.

Very nice photo! I think it's well taken, no cropping suggestions, a lonely mysterious girl in an empty environment. Very moody! Topshot!

I don't know if correcting a slight (optical?) tilt would be benefic?
But I really like everything else in here. Great composition with a perfect model and excellent control of B&W tones & contrasts.
Very well done...

Lovely soft pensive feel to this photograph - even the blur of the passing trains through the windows add to the overall ambience. Very nice tones throughout.

This is quite a photo. I really like the blur outside the window and the girl's pose as she's sitting (or maybe sleeping?). Anyway, great shot.

The exposure/tones are great.
I think some rotation would help. And it would have been nice had you captured all of her feet.

Nice shot - I like the emptiness of the seat beside her, and the smooth textures. Wish you hadn't cut her feet off, though!

I miss the feet, and wish the camera was tilted just a bit more to the left. Overall, I like the BW and tonal range. Her pose in intriguing.

the lone woman in a train. that's an alltime travel myth and the shot is very good. love the very smooth textures (even the metal parts are smooth!!!) and the extensive tonal range : fabulous mid range greys.

Very nice picture. You have captured one extremely graceful posture of the body.
I don't care at all about the absence of the top of the girl's feet.

I really like the climate of the picture, B&W works well here, a big seat and a small girl occupying a small part of it... I cannot make up my mind, whether I'd rotate the picture a bit and move the camera bit down "to include her feet" or not... I like it

very creative shot. Positioning is interesting. The motion blur outside is great.
Thank you Joshua for sharing this beautiful shot with us.

Wow, read the comments, the reactions! they tell more about the viewers than the picture itself. somehow the majority of the men/boys, i'm included, here see a lonely little girl estranged and surrounded by emptiness... perhaps what she needs is 8 hour of sleep a day.

The invisible photographer!
The picture is simple and yet beautiful. The framing is good although the girl is cut and the bottom part.
The BW create a special atmosphere.
Well Done.
btw, this picture reminds me of this one

Hey Joshua,
beautiful moment captured... (though i'd prefer a little more tail room to the composition).
HAPPY SHOOTING!!!

This is a really nice photo.
Nice shot Joshua
I would take a photo of a total stranger without permission if I had the same pose/ setting as well.
It's a nice NOIR feeling. Very well done.

Hi Joshua,
This photograph is certainly eye-catching, and there is much charm to it. The tones are wonderful, though a little pale, and the timing is good, especially with the opposite train soon through the windows. On the other hand...
The composition is not very effective: she is stuck in the left, while the majority of the photo is in the right, and there lie it's primary dynamics. Everything is cut: the girl's feet are unfortunately out of the picture; the loops for hand-holding lead to nowhere; the poster on the right isn't all there; the whole is a little sideways.
I do still like it, but I think you might have got been able to get a far better pic still, especially since she wasn't moving.

Greta shot. There's what we can call an atmosphere here. I like stillness of the empty seats next to this mysterious woman and what seems like a fast moving train behind the window.
Very good choice of B&W.

I like it very much! In fact I like the cadre as well, despite the "feet-cutting" because it creates a blend of concurrent calmness and tension. The light is perfect as well.
