Photographer's Note
"Bunkasai" means culture festival in Japanese. Junior and senior high schools all over the country have one in the fall.
This is on a preparation day so the halls are almost impossible to walk through. The students are like vultures scavenging the neighborhoods around their schools trying to find building materials. With a school of 1200 students (29 classes) there will be several haunted houses, flea markets, carnivals, cosplay studio, food stalls, and even a roller coaster - all built in the individual classrooms.
They are usually open to the public so if you are making a trip to Japan in the fall, find the local high schools and see if there is a bunkasai being held while you are in town. It will be worth it.
