Photographer's Note
Sakura and vivid blue sky at Himeji Castle. I left Kyoto in the morning under grey sky, which didn't fill me with hope for my Himeji photos, but apparently the Shinkansen bullet train propelled me into an alternate dimension, because I stepped out of the station under blue sky. The cherry blossom was well in bloom there, so I was able to get some shots of the kind I came to Japan for. Himeji made me very happy!
As with my Cherry Blossom in Hiroshima photo, I played with the focus, and as with that one I decided I preferred the foreground focus.
Polarizer makes a huge difference with this shot.

I spent 8 years living in Japan and took 1,000,000 million Sakura photos but none as good as this. Send it to The Japan Times as they will probably stick it on the front page. Much more important than G20, etc.

Hi Charlotte,
I really like that you chose to focus on the blossoms and leave the building out of focus, it creates a nice effect. You have chosen a nice segment of the branch of flowers too as their shape perfectly frames the castle, so even though it is out of focus there is still focus upon it due to the framimg...hope I am describing this properly.

A very well-composed and very, very, very Japanese photo! You used the circular polarizer very well--the blue sky really pops out at you.

I like your composition for this one very much. Beautiful DOF and POV. Thanks to the polarizer making the backgorund color so wonderful for the spring blossoms. Congrats.

Hi Charlotte,
This is a wonderful idea to take close up of these flowered branches in the front and have a blurry image of beautiful building in the background. I like the way you have composed this shot. Great Photo. Thanks for sharing, ATif
