Photographer's Note
She looks like she is thinking "where would I rather be? anyplace but here"
The girls that you see sometimes on the street in japan with the fake tans and inches of makeup are sometimes called pandas because of the stripe of makeup around the eyes. this girl has it a little bit but not full blown. but she fits with the kogal image that you see around Japan allot. There are a few other pictures around trek earth of these kind of girls. Most of them are in High school.
I heard that recently there is a tred for these girls to join something that is akin to gangs and part of proving themselves they have to be burnt by cigarettes on their arms. I heard this froma friend of mine when I saw a panda girl on the train with about 20 pairs of burn marks up and down her arms. Im getting off topic but....
This girl was just bored as one could be standing out in the heat of summer handing out advertisements to people walking by.
is there a theme for japanese kogals/pandas? maybe there should be. I have a few of these girls snaped.

Excellent shot, very good framing. The title is perfect, her expression really makes this picture.

Marvelous shot, and very informative (though slightly disturbing) note. I really like the title you chose; the "anyplace but here" might be even more accentuated if you had not cropped all the way to the girl, but included a bit more of the blurry background on the side towards which she is looking.

lovely portrait, perfect use of DOF,
and yes, so typical of these young japanese girls you can see in Shibuya or other places.
The fact she's not looking at you, arms position, make it even better.
I wouldn't have cropped that much.

Nice shot. I like the rich tones and her pose. I have a CosPlay theme but not a ko-gal theme. Go ahead and start one! Any idea what she was selling? Vacuums? Massage chairs? All I can make out is "most powerful machine", "latest style", and "avant-garde market introduction."

Great warm tones for this portrait. I would add some more space on her left but your framing is not so disturbing. It may enhance the meaning of your interesting comment about wishing to be somewhere else... I guess the narrow DOF adds to this feeling too.
Great portrait to me. I'm glad to learn so many things about Japan too !!!

She is very nice girl! No focus on background, so only she is on the first plan. Great shot!

I like your picture, the framing is good the expression is good etc. I read your note and what you say could apply to a lot of people anywhere else in the world, right here where I am is the same; a lot of people including myself would rather be: elsewhere.

Lovelly girl, I saw a lot of girls dressed in that style (the style you called 'panda style') around Shibuya. I said one time to a work friend, also in Japan, that I really think they are very beautiful, but he 100% disagree... You really should start a kogal/panda theme, I would love to see your other shots of these girls... :)
(Ps.: very strange the cigarette detail of their... 'community'... your note was very well done as your shot...)

C'est une photo très nette, très réussie. J'aime beaucoup la lumière qui illumine ses cheveux roux (j'adore cette couleur).
Gros bravo Boof. A bientôt.
